The Commissioning Toolkit of Parenting Programmes provides detailed information to inform the commissioning process and enable you to choose suitable programmes to meet the needs of specific groups of parents.

All you need to know about the programme ratings

Is inclusion in the Commissioning Toolkit an endorsement of a programme?

No. Inclusion of a programme or approach on the Toolkit database is not an endorsement, recommendation or parenting academy seal of approval.

The Academy-rating is not an accreditation but a quality evaluation. Initially, programmes appear with developers' self-ratings and subsequent Academy-ratings may be lower or higher. You should assure yourself that the programmes you are considering to commission meet your needs; that the programme is appropriate for the target population and the skills, experience, expertise and training of your local parenting workforce.

Are the programme developer's rating AND the Academy-rating both visible on the Toolkit record for a programme?

No, the Academy-rating will replace the self-evaluation rating.

How often are the quality ratings reviewed?

Once programmes have been rated by the parenting academy they will be reviewed annually. The expected date for review is displayed in the individual programme summaries.

Does a programme stay on the Toolkit if it gets a low Academy-rating?

Yes, all programmes will remain on the Toolkit for as long as they remain available and/or in use.

How can I find out more about a particular programme?

Contact details for developers and website addresses for many programmes are included on the Toolkit so that you may obtain further information directly from them. For example, you may want to find out more about

  • what training and support is available in a particular geographical area
  • where this programme is currently being used
  • the developer's capacity and timescales for delivery.

The parenting academy has also published a programme prospectus [PDF, 404 KB] containing details of our training in evidence based programmes being offered across the country.

Parenting UK hosts a parenting practitioners reference library for members which includes copies of parenting programmes available for viewing and comparison.
