National Academy for Parenting Practitioners

Commissioners' Toolkit

Toolkit update and relaunch

The Commissioners' Toolkit originally commissioned from Parenting UK is being completely redeveloped and will be launched by the Academy in November 2008 as the new Commissioning Toolkit of Parenting Programmes.

As a result of an extensive review process a Parenting Programme Evaluation Tool (PPET) has been produced to evaluate the quality of parenting programmes and approaches delivered in the UK.

The PPET has been developed in the context of international standards for best practice in the delivery of prevention and early intervention approaches with a specific focus on parenting support and family-based interventions.

Representatives from across the parenting workforce, programme developers, parenting practitioners and commissioners of programmes were invited to a series of focus groups run in May-June 2008 by the Academy to discuss the review process and PPET. A report on the outcome of the focus groups has now been published.

A Word version of a new Programme Submission Form has also been produced and a number of regional workshops for programme developers took place between 2-14 July 2008 in order to test the usability of the submission form prior to the development of an online version which will be available at the end of August 2008.

An additional workshop for programme developers will be offered on 17 September 2008.

The existing Toolkit will remain available until the new version is released.

For the latest on the redevelopment process please read our Toolkit Bulletin.
