Specialised training for social workers working with parents to support them in their parenting role
Background
The National Academy for Parenting Practitioners, in partnership with the Centre for Parent Child Support has developed an innovative specialist "top-up" training to meet the needs of qualified social workers who are involved in delivering parenting support.
This programme is being offered free to social workers by the Academy.
What is the course for?
This course is intended to:
- increase social workers competence and confidence in working in partnership with families to safeguard children and reduce risk
- consolidate and extend knowledge of the latest evidence and practice across child development and parenting
- provide participants with a range of skills, strategies and frameworks that can be effective in helping parents in their relationships with their children
- enable vulnerable parents to achieve change and build resilience.
Where and when?
The course will be held in London at the King's Fund, starting in April 2008.
- Module One: 16, 24 and 29 April 2008; 8 May 2008
- Module Two: 3, 13, 17 and 24 June 2008
- Module Three: 5, 15, 19, 26 September 2008
What is the course content?
The course will draw on the latest ideas about child development and parenting and evidence based methods for engaging and working with families to achieve effective change. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect and build on their social work practice and professional competences.
The course will involve 12 participants and 3 facilitators and consists of 12 full days. It is carefully constructed to build each week and successful completion is dependent upon attending all sessions. The course addresses core aspects of the National Occupational Standards for Working with Parents. It is accredited by City & Guilds and consists of three units assessed at QCF Level 3 through a participant portfolio of evidence.
