3400 training places are being offered on proven evidence based programmes between December 2008 and December 2009.
We will offer training in up to 12 different programmes which have been specifically chosen as appropriate to one or more child age groups and child needs. They all show high satisfaction ratings from a broad range of parents, they all also have a sound theoretical base and have been rigorously evaluated and shown to be effective, most by at least one randomised controlled trial (RCT).
Seven programmes have been selected for our training offer up to March 2009. These are:
- Families and Schools Together (FAST)
- Incredible Years
- Mellow Parenting
- Parenting Positively
- Strengthening Families 10 - 14 (UK)
- Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
- Triple P
Training will begin in December 2008 with a limited offer of training in Strengthening Families 10 - 14 (UK), Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities and Triple P. The full offer will be available from January 2009.
Training is organised regionally. A range of programmes will be offered in each region, and though not all regions will receive the same programmes, all will have a balance of programmes to meet a range of needs.
Places will be allocated on the basis of well-developed service plans including funding and workforce development, as well as child population and need. This translates as approximately
- 15-20 places for small authorities
- 20-50 places in medium-sized authorities
- up to 60 places in larger authorities with high needs.
Practitioners selected for training should have experience working with parents, a collaborative approach to working with parents and a qualification in a helping profession (eg teacher, social worker, family therapist) - but practitioners with a level 3 qualification in work with parents will be accepted if they will be co-facilitating programmes with a senior colleague.
