National Academy for Parenting Practitioners

Workforce development

Our training offer

The Academy has designed a programme of free training and support that will reach over 6000 parenting practitioners in England over the next two years. It will equip practitioners who work with parents with skills that have been shown to improve the lives of parents, children and families. It consists of:

  1. Training in evidence based programmes
  2. Post-training support for those delivering evidence based programmes
  3. Good practice workshops
  4. Advice and support for parenting commissioners on workforce development
  5. Piloting of level 3 training courses in core parenting skills.

All our training places are specifically for practitioners in priority roles and services:

  • Parenting Experts, Respect Parenting Practitioners and Parenting practitioners in Family Intervention Projects
  • Parenting practitioners in extended schools, Sure Start children's centres, Youth Offending Teams and other priority services.

All applications must be co-ordinated and approved by parenting commissioners. Local proposals should include the voluntary sector and should be discussed with relevant local services and Academy regional staff.

The Academy cannot accept direct applications from individual practitioners. Individual practitioners should contact their local parenting commissioner, through their managers, to find out more.
